oragngedoor 01 WINDSOR, ON –  Windsor Youth Centre (WYC) has received a $25,000 Orange Door Award grant from The Home Depot Canada Foundation. This will support training for additional peer outreach workers for WYC’s youth outreach program. The outreach workers will provide information and advocacy in local schools.

“We’re excited to receive the Orange Door Award because it helps keep our doors open to do the real work that needs to be done to get young people off the street,” said Tamara Kowalska, Executive Director, Windsor Youth Centre.

orangedoor 03Youth advisors play a central role in selecting the Orange Door Award winners each year. The advisors draw on their own lived experience to evaluate the applications, ensuring that each $25,000 grant goes where it will make the biggest impact in building brighter futures for youth.

The Windsor Youth Centre is one of eight organizations across Canada receiving a 2017 Orange Door Award grant from The Home Depot Canada Foundation.

“We’re committed to preventing and ending youth homelessness in Canada,” said Jeff Kinnaird, chair, board of directors, The Home Depot Canada Foundation and president, The Home Depot Canada. “Over the past three years we’ve supported the work of more than 300 non-profit organizations, giving them the chance to help more youth in need.”
